Nontoxic Laundry

by | Apr 10, 2020 | Lifestyle

Let’s talk laundry. Think for a minute, you wash your clothes and then wear them all day.  They are touching your largest organ, your skin, 24 hours a day. If they are washed with products filled with chemicals, those chemicals are likely absorbing into your body, could potentially cause you skin irritation and you are inhaling and smelling them, which is affecting your lungs.

There are chemical toxins everywhere. You can’t control them all, but finding ones you can control will help decrease your exposures and burden on your body.

Today I wanted to share how to upgrade your laundry room with some nontoxic options.

Here is what my laundry room looks like.

FIRST: PREP

NEXT: WASH

  • Homemade laundry detergent which is equal parts oxiclean, washing soda and baking soda (ratio 1:1:1). I make a ton of it and store it in a big glass jar. Use 1-2 tablespoons per load.
  • Distilled white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment of my washing machine to both soften clothes and remove odors.

FINALLY: DRY

  • Add optional essential oils to dryer balls and toss them in with your clothes to prevent static clean and provide some scent if you prefer your clothes to have a smell.

Is your laundry room an area you have tackled yet when it comes to nontoxic living? If so, tell me what brands you use.
