How To Make Fermented Sauerkraut

by | Mar 18, 2020 | Food and Kitchen Basics, Gut Health, Recipes | 0 comments

Fermented foods are vital to our gut health and overall health. Raw sauerkraut is one of my favorite ways to get the benefits of fermented foods, but buying store bought can be expensive.

It is really simple to make your own at home and today I am going to show you how. All you need is cabbage, salt, a bowl, a jar and a spoon!

Experiment and make it your own. Try different amounts of salt and fermentation times to get the flavor you like. Add in different veggies like thinly sliced cucumbers or shredded carrots. Try red or green cabbage or a mixture. Experiment with dried herbs like garlic, dill, caraway seed or crushed red pepper.

If you want to get some specific equipment (completely optional), here are some of my favorite tools that I shared in the video.

Glass weights

Airlock lids

Wood pounder

Starter kit

Wide mouth mason jars

Fermentation lids
